Hoi An Basket Boat
Spinning spinning in an coconut boat in hoi an 🇻🇳
Although today they’re mostly used for tourists in the water coconut forests near Hội An, these round basket boats originated in central Vietnam centuries ago. Historically, fishermen created them during the French colonial period to avoid paying taxes on larger registered boats. Since these were technically baskets, they weren’t classified in the same way and didn’t have to pay the tax!
